Why has my renewal premium increased?

Premium increases at renewal are common in international health insurance and are driven by a combination of factors.

Age Loading

As you get older, your premium increases because the statistical likelihood of making a claim rises. Most insurers apply age-band increases at renewal, typically every five years.

Medical Inflation

Healthcare costs rise every year. International medical inflation typically runs at 8 to 12% annually, which is reflected in renewal premiums industry-wide.

Claims History

If you or your dependants made significant claims during the policy year, some insurers apply a claims-related loading at renewal. However, BUPA Global, Allianz, and several other insurers on our panel operate community-rated pricing — meaning individual claims history does not affect your personal renewal premium.

What Can You Do?

We can review your plan and compare alternatives to ensure you are getting the best value at renewal. In some cases, adjusting your deductible or removing underutilised modules can bring the premium back in line without sacrificing essential cover.
