What Bupa Global maternity cover usually includes, when to ask for pre-authorisation, and what to do before and after the birth.
Maternity cover depends on your plan. Your Table of benefits, in MembersWorld, shows whether your plan includes maternity, the limit, and any waiting period. Always check it first.
What maternity cover usually includes
Where your plan includes maternity, it typically covers:
- check-ups and scans during pregnancy;
- delivery, whether natural or by caesarean section;
- care after the birth.
Complications of pregnancy may be covered under a separate benefit. Your Table of benefits shows how your plan treats them.
Waiting periods
- Individual and family plans usually have a waiting period before maternity benefits apply. For example, it is 24 months on Bupa Worldwide Health Options and 18 months on Lifeline Classic and Gold. Lifeline Essential does not include maternity. Your membership certificate shows the figure that applies to you.
- Company plans often have no waiting period. Your Table of benefits or your HR team can confirm it for your plan.
Before the birth
- Ask Bupa to pre-authorise your delivery, ideally a few weeks ahead. The hospital then knows what is covered and can bill Bupa directly. See Securing a guarantee of payment (GOP) from Bupa Global.
- Routine check-ups and scans are usually paid by you and claimed back. See Filing a claim for reimbursement with Bupa Global.
After the birth
- Add your baby within 30 days. Newborn cover is not automatic. See Adding your newborn to your Bupa Global plan.
If anything about your own cover is unclear, write to us at hello@asktic.com and we will check it with Bupa for you.
